Literacy week is the most awaited event at Oberoi International School (OIS) – JVLR. During Literacy Week, we celebrate the joy of reading and the importance of lifelong learning. This year, from 1st to 10th February 2023, our school community came together to celebrate the power of words and to encourage everyone to continue exploring the world of books.

Feb 1 – We kicked off the week with school-wide read-aloud sessions. Teachers, parents, staff and students signed up as guest readers across grade level classes. This was a great way to get everyone in the mood for the week ahead and to demonstrate the power of shared reading experiences.

Feb 2 – Thursday was ‘Poet-tree’ day where students and teachers shared their own poems or their favorite poems and created a poet tree.

Feb 3 – Friday was a day of creativity, with students participating in Podcasts. Grade 5 students explored Apple tools to create podcasts for Book Talks. Our amazing Tech Integrators helped students in their creative efforts, and it was wonderful to listen to their Book talks; these podcasts were presented during the Friday breakfast club for other grades.

Feb 6 – Monday, we had ‘Build A Story Challenge’ where students used the prompts displayed to create their own personal narratives and describe special moments that happened in their life.

Feb 7 and 8 – Tuesday and Wednesday were dedicated to reading big books… Big books are a fun way to motivate children to read and create an exciting way for them to experience books. Students and teachers explored amazing big books from the hive.

Feb 9 – Friday, our grade 5 students got an opportunity to collaborate and exchange thoughts with students from Mahindra International School. Students of both schools shared their thoughts on topics like ‘Reading to me means …’, ‘Books that have impacted me…’, ‘Library systems at my school Resource Centre’ and ‘My favourite author/series is … and why’. It was a wonderful experience overall.

Finally on Feb 10, Friday we concluded the literacy week with a ‘Character Parade’. Nursery to Grade 5 students and teachers dressed up as their favourite book characters. Character parade is a fun way to encourage students to continue their love of reading and share their favourite books.

Let’s celebrate reading and encourage others to read more…

Thank you
